📬 Saturday Scoop: Style Q&A, Trip Prep & the Best Weekend Sales
Answering your style questions, trying new travel bags, and rounding up the best weekend sales—catch up on it all here.
Good morning! I hope you’re having a great weekend. We met up with friends we haven’t seen in a while last night for dinner, so that was fun. This morning I have Pilates, and then I’m going to test out a few new bags that came in this week for an AWAY luggage review I’m working on.
I ordered both of their backpacks as possible alternatives to the Everywhere Bag I usually use as my personal item. I thought a backpack might be more practical for longer days while I’m in England, but I’m not sure they hold as much. I’ll report back once I’ve tried them out! I’m also planning to finalize the contents of my personal bag—whichever one I end up using—because I leave on Wednesday!!!
Meanwhile, I’ve got my blog recap, reader Q&A, and weekend sale roundup for you below. Have a great day!
xx,
Jo-Lynne

Q: Hi! I am not a fan of the techy watches that everyone else seems to love! What cute and stylish watches do you like for the purpose of telling time, but also for jazzing up everyday outfits?
A: I hear you! I prefer to wear a watch that feels like jewelry. My go-to is this Michele Deco Watch, a gift from my husband a few years ago. It’s timeless and elegant, and I love how the mixed metal band ties together silver and gold when I’m wearing both. (Bonus: it’s part of Bloomingdale’s Power Points event—Loyallists earn 30% back in rewards on regular-priced Michele watches through 5/11.)
For a similar style at a lower price point, I like this Tory Burch (it also comes in solid gold or silver), this Tissot with the round face, and this Olivia Burton is simple but very pretty. I rounded up even more watch options HERE.
Q: I have a question about white shoes in summer. Are they ever a good choice? I'm thinking particularly about sandals and flip flops when wearing white jeans, shorts or crop pants. If not white, what are some good options? I'm somewhat short, and I don't want to look any shorter.
A: White sandals can definitely be a good choice—especially with white jeans or shorts, as you mentioned—for a clean, lengthening look, and there are a lot out there right now. (They also look great with white dresses!) I also like them with blue jeans and a light or white top to bookend the outfit and keep things summery.
That said, pure white shoes can sometimes feel a bit stark. If that’s the case, try a metallic or “nude-for-you” tone for a softer look that still helps elongate the leg line. Or try this sandal or this one—they combine white with cork or raffia for the best of both worlds!
Q: I'm looking for spring/summer tops to wear with my new Marine Layer Alison hemp pants. This style has a subtle, wide leg, high-ish, wide-band elastic waist, and is full-length. Longer tops make them look dumpy, but my crop top days are over. 21-22.5 inches seems to be a sweet spot for me. What words do I use when searching for this type of top online? I've been wearing my The Reset sleeveless knit V-neck with them, and it's perfect, but I need more than one top!
A: It sounds like you’ve nailed the proportions and found your sweet spot! Unfortunately, there’s no consistent industry term for tops in that exact length, so it really comes down to getting good at reading product descriptions. When brands include the garment length, you’re golden—but when they don’t, sometimes the reviews (or even customer photos) can help.
Try searching with keywords like “shorter length top,” “waist-length top,” “cropped blouse,” or “shrunken fit sweater.” But I’ll be honest—it’s a bit like searching for a needle in a haystack. It takes some time and digging, but once you know your preferred length, it gets easier to spot the right ones.

Regarding the question about white sandals, I love them and agree they look great with raffia or other natural materials so it’s not all white. Off white sandals are also an option. The Vince Camuto Felyn espadrille is a nice one, especially for narrower feet. I know someone who may have bought two pairs. 🤭
What is the hem like on the olive Gap Factory pants? On the website the olive pants look like the have jogger style ankle hem?
