To the q&a about budget- I’ve actually edited my wardrobe way down but the pieces in it are all higher quality (rag bone, frame, mother, vince, Paige, rails, etc). I’m very finicky about how an item wears and retains it shape so I can get multiple wears before washing. Also so they always look polished while traveling. I haven’t figured out the cost to do this, but I know the things that make it to my closet are going to serve me well.
I read your post on my computer, Jo-Lynne. I'm not sure how many others do so, but the link in the email to reach the post on Substack seems to be for phones. I did find the post on Substack, but had to go to the site and then search for you. Maybe there needs to be an additional link in your email for those of us using computers?
Great question about editing our wardrobe. I'm slowly reducing the number of clothes I own as part of a long-term plan to simplify my life. I'm trying to be far more selective in what I purchase, but old habits are hard to break. For a long time, I resisted the idea that I couldn't find an inexpensive item that would fit well and last, and have spent too much time ordering and returning items, or worse, keeping something because "it could work" and then rarely wearing it. I'm starting to get over that! My favorite, most-worn clothes in my closet are almost always my most expensive. It's a process, though, because I love clothes and am an online shopper so it's easy to pop things in a cart and buy them.
Yeah, I noticed that issue with the linking. I was trying to figure out how to hyperlink to my post on Substack when I suggested clicking over, but there doesn't seem to be a way to grab the link to a post that isn't yet published. I can link to my page tho.
For me it works to click either the title of the post to jump to the post, or the "comments" icon to jump directly to comments. From gmail on my laptop.
So this doesn’t directly respond to the “how to edit a wardrobe” question but maybe it does. About 6 months ago I heard about the app Indyx that many influencers have talked about. You take pictures of your clothes, fill in some basic info, and bam- you have a visual closet. I didn’t do it all at once but rather as I pull items out of my closet, so I’m just getting around to lightweight sweaters, for example. You can add items or outfits to a calendar and the app keeps track of the number of times you wear something. What I really wanted it for is stress relief- once I create an outfit, I add all those items to my Indyx outfit. Then when I am “going out” or getting dressed for a client visit, I can scan my outfit album, know all the pieces that I need and get dressed quickly- without the “oh brother these shoes or top don’t work I need something else.” It has been a game changer for me, who is a procrastinator so I’m always running late. Also- it’s so fun to put together outfits using the item pictures! Like the old days of playing dress up with doll clothes LOL! I’ve made new clothing connections because I can see my clothes all together. I started with the free Indyx but paid for the yearly subscription (maybe $60?). So worth it to me. AND I have it on my phone and iPad. In my house I mostly use the iPad app, but when I’m out shopping, I can check the phone Indyx app and see if I already have a white blouse like the one I’m considering.
Honestly a bit of time. So that’s why I add things as I wear them or purchase new items. But I’ve tried multiple apps like this over the years and this is the best one so far. Easy to use.
I’m intrigued by this app! I will be traveling soon and I think this could be helpful for deciding what to wear and maximizing outfits from my travel capsule. Thanks!

I think I'm going to start asking myself that question when I purchase an item-- Will this serve me well?

For the matte eyeshadow question-
Makeup by Mario has 2 large neutral palettes. This one is warmer colors

& this one is cooler

For a smaller palette, I also like this one from Natasha Denona

Thanks!
Thank you for answering my question!!!!!

Interesting! Is it very time consuming?
